Located in Burtle on the beautiful Somerset Levels and surrounded by nature reserves and wetlands, The Duck is Somerset’s hidden gem. It opened its doors in May 2016, and has fast become known for its excellent modern British food, family dining and warm hospitality. Already scooping up awards in its first 2 years of opening we are setting our sights high. The restaurant seats 38 with an additional 20 in the snug and more in the bar. It can get very busy and is regularly booked out. In addition a fully self-contained function venue catering for up to 120 is booked most weekends covering weddings to wakes and parties to business meetings.
There has been a pub on the site for around 150 years. Formally known as the Tom Mogg it closed its doors a few years ago, took on new owners and underwent an extensive refurbishment. It has been decorated in a relaxed contemporary country style and with a large open fire and long convivial bar, it is a great place to relax for locals and visitors from further afield.

We operate a busy restaurant and large function venue and need someone who can hit the ground running, to work under the Head Chef/Licensee and as part of the team.
A passion for serving great quality food is a must, as we cook fresh to order and have a daily changing menu, utilising locally sourced food whenever possible.
You will be able prepare, cook and plate to a high standard and assist in all necessary kitchen duties.
We are small team and it can get very busy so you must be able to work calmly under pressure, have good interactions with front of house staff and be happy to turn your hand to whatever is needed.
Experience deputising for the Head Chef on days off, assisting with planning and costing of menu’s, stock ordering etc would be ideal.
You will be fully conversant with food hygiene and safety regulations.
Your experience and attitude are more important than qualifications.
Ideally we are looking for someone who can come up to speed quickly but, we would be willing to train a fast learner who has had some experience working in a busy kitchen and is keen to get on.
We are also happy to consider full or part time candidates.
