Things to see and do on the Somerset Levels

Grab your boots, bikes, kids and dogs, jump in the car and let nature and ancient history be your guide. There’s something for everyone here!

AVALON MARSHES

A magical wetland landscape at the heart of the Levels and Moors. Internationally important for its rich cultural heritage and diversity of wildlife, with some of Britians best wetland nature reserves. See the magical Starling murmurations, spot the bird big 3 and even catch a glimpes of an otter.

The levels cover an area of approximately 160,000 acres and are rich in nature, history and legend! Lying only a few meters above sea level and bordered by several rivers, the vast flat plains have been prone to flooding for thousands of years. There are an abundance of nature reserves, walking and cycling tracks, quaint villages and country pubs to discover. As well as other family attractions near by such as Cheddar Gorge, the Cities of Bath and Wells and the mythical town of Glastonbury full of Arthurian legend and legendary music festivals!

GLASTONBURY TOR

Topped by the ruined, medieval Chapel of St Micheal, the final resting place of the Holy Grail and King Arthur and the inspiration for William Blakes “Jerusalem”, the iconic hump of Glastonbury Tor is visible for miles around. Managed by the National Trust there is much to discover!
